ABSTRACT
Objectives:
The article presents the issue of research of perceived relations with parents in a group of students who experience symptoms of different mental disorders.
Methods:
The research referred to 387 students. Participants evaluated themselves using Retrospective Assessment of Parental Attitude Questionnaire (KPR-Roc) and Symptom Questionnaire based on Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV-TR SCID-I (complied with DSM-5).
Results:
The men perceived their fathers’ attitudes as more influential.than mothers'.fattitudes. The significant impact on appearing mental disorders had: low acceptance, low autonomy, low or high demands and high inconsistency. The women evaluated both fathers and mothers’ attitudes as having equally significant impact on experiencing their mental disorders symptoms. The significant impact had: low acceptance and autonomy, high demands and inconsistency.
Conclusions:
The perception of parental attitudes became predictive on existence of mental disorders symptoms in young adults. The diagnosis of this relation seems crucial in planning treatment of mental disorders with psychotherapy, especially family therapy.
