ABSTRACT
480 Polish pre-pubertal schoolchildren aged 7 to 9 years and their parents were separately assessed for children's ideal body sizes by means of pictorial figures. Children's height and weight were measured and body-mass indices (BMI) were calculated. 10% of overweight, 38% of undernourished and 31% of normal weight children had a different ideal body size image from their parents'. No differences between boys and girls were found. The authors discuss the meaning of this conflict in the separation process.
