STRESZCZENIE
The term scapegoat is applied to processes which take place in the social, family and therapeutic groups. In all those situations, the goal of scapegoating is the projection of shameful, unaccepted and denied feelings onto the member of group/family and symbolic exclusion from the community. The authors refer the understanding of this mechanism in culture, in the social and family group and in analytical group therapy. The clinical illustration shows an unfavourable scapegoat process. The scapegoat phenomenon could be developmental and fruitful for the group if it would be diagnosed and interpreted by the group leader as an expression of the group's needs.
