ABSTRACT
The author presents clinical material of his work with a deeply disturbed patient with depressive symptoms. He presumes that there is one psychoanalytic technique although there are various conceptualizations of what it cures. The therapeutic work illustrates the curing factors: insight, setting, corrective emotional experience and identification with the containing object. Those factors enable the recovering of lost parts of the self in the process of therapy.
